Hi, I’m Amy, the founder of Books By Brown. I’m an AAT-qualified accountant with nine years of experience, mostly within the construction industry.
My life changed in the best way when I had my little boy in November 2024. Becoming a mum made me rethink what work should look like. I knew I wanted something flexible, family-friendly and fulfilling.

Making Tax Digital is a HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) program to modernise the UK tax system, requiring businesses and individuals to keep digital records and use MTD-compatible software to submit tax information.
MTD for VAT is already mandatory for all VAT-registered businesses, regardless of turnover.
MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment is being phased in for sole traders and landlords. In 2026, if your turnover if over £50,000, you'll need to adhere to MTD requirements.
Instead of a single annual tax return, affected individuals will need to send quarterly updates of income and expenses to HMRC via MTD software (like Xero), followed by a final year-end declaration.
